Spanish levels
The CEFR uses six levels, from A1 to C2, as a common reference for describing language proficiency. Discover what each Spanish level broadly means, what you can expect to be able to do as you progress and how Rutinea uses this framework as a reference for your learning journey.
Find your Spanish levelSpanish levels describe a gradual progression in how independently you can understand and use the language. Each level reflects a broader range of abilities across listening, reading, speaking and writing rather than a fixed list of grammar points.

CEFR levels provide a broad reference for language proficiency. Rutinea breaks the learning journey into 43 smaller levels so you can practise and consolidate Spanish in more manageable steps.
Our current learning path covers A1 to B2, with dedicated review levels throughout the journey to help reinforce what you have learned before moving on.

Rutinea's structured learning path currently covers A1 to B2. Learners working at C1 or C2 can still use Rutinea to review, consolidate and strengthen areas from the A1–B2 syllabus, but C1 and C2 do not currently have their own dedicated Rutinea levels.
Rutinea supports practice across grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening and writing. It does not currently assess or practise live spoken interaction, so your overall CEFR proficiency may not match your progress in every individual skill.
Understanding the levels is useful, but finding where you currently sit is the next step. Rutinea's Spanish Level Test can help you estimate your level and identify a suitable starting point.
The test focuses mainly on grammatical knowledge and provides an indicative result rather than an official assessment of your overall CEFR proficiency.
